Symbolism (front)
1. The Cloud (katana)
The symbol for which this piece was named, the cloud is a prominent symbol in traditional Japanese culture. They can symbolize impermanence. A Buddhist concept, and reminder to be thankful for the time you have.
2. Shattered Blade
The piece was named after the cloud but the broken blade is the true meaning—a symbol of perseverance. It's a reminder to power through adversity; the ability to keep pushing, despite how tough circumstances have become.
Symbolism (rear)
1. Tsukamaki
The handle was sculpted to resemble the traditional cloth handle-wrapping of the katana.
2. Perseverance
The back of the blade is inscribed, "unbreakable spirit." A more literal symbol of perseverance, this phrase represents the wearer's iron will.
